Translate Kazakh
from Cyrillic to Latin
and vice versa.

About the Transliterator
In memory
of the talented, wise teacher,
professional in her field
Muratkanova Amina Erzatkyzy.
The "Transliterator" was developed due to her tasks assigned to our group in her classes.
The project was implemented based on the "Transliterator" application designed for replacing Kazakh letters with Russian analogs. It began to appear more often in queries like "latin transliteration kazakh". Naturally, the program did not have such functionality at that time. Now it does, and it works based on:
Later on, the relevance of the alphabet will be maintained whenever new changes appear in the alphabet.
The tool tries hard, but it may make mistakes. Please double-check the translation result when working with important docs. Verify important texts with the Department of Culture and Language Development of your city before usage.
2018
The first version of the Transliterator was written in Python and showed excellent results. However, that format did not allow me to
distribute the application conveniently — to launch it, code required a compiler, or visiting sites like online IDE.
Therefore, it was decided to rewrite the project in JavaScript, to be able to simplify the usage by allowing to run the program right in the browser.
2019
A mobile phone version of the application was developed in partnership with Isoteric Studio (Moscow, Russia). For the first time, the code was rewritten in Java, an APK file became available for download.
2022
With the support of Alikhan Bokeikhan University (Semey, Kazakhstan) the project was submitted for obtaining an author's certificate as a "Transliterator Software".
2024
Record number of unique visits to the Transliterator website — 8,600 people per year.
The approach to the program's functionality in the new Android version has been redesigned, now it can remember all of your latest transliterations.
For the first time, in that version I implemented transliteration from Cyrillic to Latin, and vice versa.
2025
Cyrillic-Latin transliteration is now implemented on the website as well.
Use cases
Encodings
in applications
When working in programs or web applications that do not support Kazakh letters, the text
often turns into question marks or other glyphs.
As for example, when copying text from Word to an old program, letters "Ә, Ғ, Ү" are displayed as "?".
Solution: transliteration from Cyrillic to Latin allows preserving the readability of the text and correctly processing it by the application.
Fonts
without Kazakh
Even if the font supports Cyrillic, it may not contain specific Kazakh letters (Ә, Ғ, Ө, Ү, Ұ, Ң, Ш, Ж, Қ).
In this case, the text is covered with rectangles or empty squares.
Solution: replace Cyrillic Kazakh letters with Latin or with "approximated Russian analogs"
through the converter to keep the text readable without changing the font.
Normalization
for table
Some tools and programs (Excel, old databases, CRM) cannot correctly process
the Kazakh alphabet in sorting or filtering.
Example: words with "Ә" and "Ө" are sorted incorrectly or cause the program to crash.
Solution: transliteration from Cyrillic to Latin allows using familiar tools without
errors. Keep using your favorite program, and then return the text to Cyrillic if necessary.
